The Burmese believed that if a ruby was inserted into the skin of the owner, it would make them invulnerable. Rubies were thought to keep one healthy, stop evil thoughts, and settle disputes. Legend says that Catherine of Aragon observed her ruby darken and knew it was a warning of her demise as the wife of Henry VIII. Ancient Hindus, Burmese, and Sinhalese believed that a colorless sapphire was a ruby that hadn't ripened, and if it were burned, it would mature and ripen into a beautiful ruby. Rubies and sapphires are both in the corundum family of minerals. A ripe corundum is the DeLong Star Ruby. This star ruby is 100 carats and is famous for its color and fine star, as well as its size.
